Vote for Change

"I Choose Change"

FATIMA Women's Network sent a strong delegation to attend with hundreds of people, last Thursday's Vote for a Change rally to send Parliament that message - and it came through loud and clear.

We're through with waiting for our politicians to stop letting us down. We're done hoping for our broken political system to right itself.

We're fighting for change, and a true say in who represents us in Parliament - starting now.

Thanks to everyone who came down to the rally, submitted a question for the panellists, and sent in a photo to star in the campaign kick-off video.

But this was just the beginning of our fight to fix Parliament - and the clock's ticking for us to make it happen.

We've got an historic opportunity to change our political system to give voters a real voice, but it won't be open long. We've got until November 5th to persuade politicians to hold a referendum on the way we elect our MPs.

We can't waste a moment in building momentum for real reform, and for putting pressure on our leaders to take action.

Take a look at the video, which was launched at the rally ,let us help build that momentum now by sharing the campaign video with a friend:

Thank you again for all your support.

Put People First

A new report, from organisations that came together as Put People First provides a detailed assessment of the decisions made by the G20 in April, and sets out what world leaders must still do to lift the world out of recession, and secure a fairer, greener future.

The analysis urges more concerted action on tax havens, reform of international financial institutions, a green economic recovery, social protection funding, financial system reform and climate change financing.

The UN Conference on the Financial Crisis on 24-26 June is the next key venue where fundamental changes can be discussed. Unlike the G20, all 192 countries have the right to represent themselves at this meeting. Unfortunately some rich countries may not attend this conference, seemingly out of fear that it may recommend more radical measures than the G20.

Jubilee Debt Campaign is running an e-action calling on Gordon Brown to attend the meeting, that you can link to from your website.

The next G8 will take place in Italy on 8-10 July, where the financial crisis will also be on the agenda. The Global Call to Action against Poverty (GCAP) has produced a special e-action that you can embed or link to, in which you can (literally!) press the G8 leaders.

The dates and locations of the next G20 Leaders' Summit and Finance Ministers' Meeting have also been confirmed: the leaders will meet in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania on 24-25 September and the finance ministers will meet in St Andrews, Scotland on 7-8 November. Actions are currently being developed to coincide with these, and you will be updated soon
